Inspired by India’s achievements towards the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and the ‘Make in India’ initiative, at the start of 2024, I recently took on the task of representing some of the key highlights of India’s trajectory into the future.
The project, located at the Petrapole Land Port, West Bengal is a long series of murals spanning 8,000 sq ft of intricately detailed paintings that depict the beautiful tapestry of our culture and its many faces as India transforms into one of the most powerful nations in the Global South.
Stories woven through ‘Day in the life of’ scenarios of an India of the future, showcase India’s advancements through good governance and creation of modern opportunities in the fields of medical manufacturing; space technology and research; the ever expanding access to electricity; leaps in public transportation & aviation; modernisation of chemical engineering, food safety; the foray into renewable energy; advancements in biotechnology; the focus on a return to traditional textile; future advancements in digital health, finance, electronics, IT, mining, media and entertainment; to name a few.
After the art direction process, I collaborated with a group of 15 artists from across the country to bring the project to life.

In the interest of time I used a combination of matt paintings techniques with line art, paintovers and adobe firefly images.
