The life cycle of rivers, and in turn the water that we depend on for almost everything has already been compromised to an extent that it would take decades to return to any kind of normalcy. Glacial melting, damming, over use of water for irrigation, habitat loss, pollution, population growth, among a long list of vectors are impacting these systems to a point of no return. To add to this, countries globally are planning infrastructure investments that will further weaken the natural systems.
This is an illustration about the adverse effects of climate change and human activities on our rivers to accompany research presented by Vikrom Mathur — Founder, Transitions Research at the Alserkal, Dubai.
